#ALSicebucketchallenge

You guys might have already noticed the mayhem of ALS ice bucket challenge all over the media. Its literally all you see through your newsfeed on fb, twitter or G+(if anyone uses it). It actually started when a professional golfer, Chris Kennedy was nominated by his friend to do the challenge and donate 100$ to the charity, he took a video of it and nominated his wife and some other friends. Kennedy’s wife started a YouTube channel and started posting the chain reaction of videos .

Now, the challenge has traveled all the around the world, even to third world countries and spread awareness for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or Lou Gehrig’s disease or simply, “the condition that Stephen Hawking has”

Its good to see people step up to this and donate a lot of money, which eventually is actually making a difference and spreading awareness as almost all celebrities are involved in it. But its also surprising, that there a few cynics who are being nit-picky to this act. Their point being, why waste water and not simply donate. There are millions of people in Africa who are suffering for basic necessary amounts of water.

I respectfully disagree with this notion, I don’t believe, the effect that this act has created through ripples of challenging each other, while having fun, could have been achieved by just bland donation. These skeptics fail to understand the motto behind the challenge. It is to spread awareness and if it weren’t for the ice bucket, I doubt these cynics would’ve even noticed about the donations. In fact its actually Hippocratic to say celebrities are wasting a few gallons of water when we ourselves literally take almost 10 times more amount of it just to take a shower on a daily basis. It’s quite shallow to shadow this challenge under pompous act. As a matter of fact flaunting it and uploading videos is the USP of the purpose.

Moving on, we all have seen the challenges, and yes donations have been made, but the fun question is who actually nailed it ? My top 3 list is as follows:

In my view the #3 spot goes to the rant King Charlie Sheen. The video is actually funny as he, like always, comes out like a jerk. Also, he was a hero for a few, as he didn’t “waste” a single ounce of water. What make me chuckle is his nominees: Jon Cryer, Chuck Lorre & Ashton Kutcher. To top it, he asked them to do it in the identical manner. Seems like it was really a bitter pill to swallow for Sheen to get ousted from the sitcom.

The #2 spot goes to Paul Bissonnette, a professional Ice hockey player from Canada, never knew this guy until I saw his Ice bucket Challenge Video. All I can say is, he redefined the phrase “Like a Boss”

I guess the choice for #1 spot unanimously goes to Foo Fighters. Its not daredevilry or heartthrobbing. Its just plain hilarious. The whole Carrie’s prom disaster parody was completely unexpected. This is one spoof to look out for.

Other honorable mentions would be of Bill Gates, Lady Gaga (damn creepy) & Chris Pratt.

So whats your favorite #ALSicebucketchallenge video ?

Why Sharapova not knowing Sachin isn’t a big deal !

Agree or not, this was the most bland Wimbledon tournament of the decade. Probably because, it got overshadowed by a kick-ass FIFA world cup. The sports media along with other audiences were negligent towards whats going on the court converse to the attention grabbing events in Brazil. Also, the most conspicuous affair out of the whole Wimbledon tour was not Djokovic’s win over Federer to score his sixth grand slam title. But, surprisingly it was the denial of Maria Sharapova’s knowledge on the cricketing God Sachin Tendulkar. The master’s fans took the social media by storm; posting Sachin’s stats and credits on her facebook and twitter page whilst demanding an apology. Now the question arises : Is this reaction justified ? Any person in his right mind would shout out “NO!! ” First reason being her nativity , Sharapova is a Russian and trains in the U.S where cricket is hardly recognized.  Although she travels a lot, it doesn’t validate her compulsion to have knowledge regarding other sports. Furthermore, I highly doubt whether even other sportsperson from different field hardly know the abc’s of cricket let alone know about its players. And yes, Roger Federer knows about our Cricketing God, so does CR7 and President Obama. But, be that as it may, it doesn’t warrant the barbaric all out assault on her to forcibly address a public apology.

Not to forget the major irony behind this onslaught, which is,  how well do Sachinists know about our other heroes ? Though they might not be in a Indo-popular sport such as cricket but their contribution to their respective fields is quite analogous to Sachin’s in cricket. What grinds my gears is that it doesn’t just stop at the onset, later comes the mockery- calling her ” Alia Bhatt of Russia ” or comparing the number of likes on their respective fb pages, completely ignoring the fact that India is a nation with a population exceeding a billion. What these blind folded fans do not understand is, this onset makes no difference in either Sharapova or Sachin’s popularity. The only element losing its integrity globally is the logic of an Indian layman.

I myself am a Sachin fan, how could I not be? I am an Indian. Despite this it doesn’t mean a squat to me what Sharapova thinks of my idol. I respect her in the field she’s in and do not reckon her to be under any obligation to know someone that doesn’t effect her in any aspect. I expect my fellow country people to treat her with such dignity as well.
